Dear friend,
11 youths joined us since the beginning of 2024 for the three-month Project Serve program. Here are some of their stories:
Gloria Lim (17) was first introduced to SYFC by her mother who was involved in the 1990s. Subsequently, she attended LIFE Group in secondary two and upon finishing her O-level, Gloria decided to join Project Serve. She wanted to experience what her mother has shared with her all these years and grow in her own walk with God. God honoured her desires. Despite being an introvert and telling her supervisor, “I really, really cannot bring myself to approach strangers,” Gloria stepped out of her comfort zone to share the gospel on the streets. She said the whole experience was “so scary!” But she was grateful to God that the students she approached were friendly and she managed to share the gospel with them.
Jodi Lim (19) heard about Project Serve when she was in primary school because two of her older sisters joined the program then. With their encouragement, Jodi joined Project Serve too after her A-level. Growing up, she found it hard to share her faith with others. And when she tried doing so in junior college, the experience of her friends asking many difficult questions frightened her even more. Her most memorable experience so far is street evangelism. She was pleasantly surprised that people would actually stop and listen to the gospel. That helped her overcome some mental blocks and now she is more confident in approaching others and sharing the gospel.
Elias Kwan (17) first joined SYFC as a participant in a post-PSLE camp. When he was in secondary school, he continued to join LIFE Group and other events. During the Project Serve camp, he noticed that there was this boy in his group who was reading his Bible in one corner while the rest were playing games. The next morning when Elias woke up, the same boy was already up and having his quiet time. It then led Elias to realise how little time he spends on reading the Bible and that challenged him to ask his supervisor to teach him how to read the Bible on his own. He also started having his devotion in the morning when he is most alert and not at night when he is only reading the Bible with “left-over energy.”
Meenachi (20) reconnected with a Youth Guidance staff when she was in secondary school. Thereafter, the staff invited her to join Project Serve since the intake interview for a course she is interested in is in the later part of the year. Meenachi signed up on the spot. Part of what Meenachi does in Project Serve is to tutor two boys who suffer from dyslexia. She is also seeking opportunity to use what she has learnt in the Two Ways to Live sessions to share the gospel with her friend.
I hope you have been encouraged by these stories and how God used the platform of Project Serve to train and grow these young people. Before their term ends, all 11 of them are running several programs and going for a mission trip. Please pray for them for endurance and greater dependence on God.
All Glory To God,
