We accept that giving our resources is a necessary part of our expression of what service to God is. Hence, we do our best to ensure that all our ministry activities are self-supporting.
Here are the principles we uphold:
We be lean in our spending and avoid being wasteful or lavish. 1 Thess 2:9
&
We accept and willingly participate in raising our own financial support because we believe:
It allows us to exercise our faith in God whom we believe provides for all our needs. 2 Cor 9
It allows those who support us financially to be in partnership with us in youth evangelism and in missions. Phil 1:5, cf 4:15-16
It will benefit our financial supporters. Phil 4:17
The Personal Support Scheme (PSS) enables each staff to raise his/her monthly salary. A staff does this by approaching friends and Christian contacts to pledge to his/her salary on a regular basis.
The staff’s main responsibility towards his/her personal supporters is to share his/her ministry with them, both through letters and personal interaction regularly.
When a friend agrees to pledge, he/she is placed on the SYFC mailing list. Once SYFC receives a pledge from one of the staff’s supporter, a receipt will be issued and the supporter will also be given regular updates of our ministry.
Staff of Singapore Youth for Christ (SYFC) are expected to participate in the Personal Support Scheme (PSS) as SYFC is a non-profit organization. This scheme encourages every staff to raise their monthly salary and employer CPF contribution. While every staff works diligently at raising 100%, not everyone is able to do so, particularly the new and young staff.
For staff who raised more than 100%, the surplus goes into a common pool to help other full-time staff workers who face difficulty in raising the full support. And by the grace of God, this common pool has enabled every staff to receive their salary plus CPF since the introduction of the PSS. This common pool has helped every staff to stay focused on the mission of youth evangelism even when he or she experiences difficulty in raising the full 100%.
SYFC believes that the common pool is a practical application (within the organization) of the principle that every staff is part of the one body of Christ (Eph 4:4-6, 16).
