Dear friend,
It seems like only yesterday when I first looked up Singapore Youth for Christ on the web. Back then, if you had asked me do I see myself one day as the National Director, I would have literally laughed out loud! My desires then were simply to trust God and to do His work.
Allow me to share with you God’s faithfulness in my life.
I grew up in a non-believing family, but my parents sent me to a church kindergarten out of convenience for my caregivers. Those foundational years taught me that there is a God and I had better behave myself before Him. I even prayed to this so-called God when I was younger. It was only when I was in secondary 4 that I discovered more about God. My friend invited me to a Christmas service, and I remember asking, “What is sin ah?” It was in that church that I got to know Jesus and gave my life to Him.
After becoming a Christian, I spent a lot of my time in church organising activities, meeting up with people and simply enjoying the company of the brothers and sisters in church. But things soon changed when I started working and I became preoccupied with making money and being more successful in life.
However, I still had an unfulfilled dream, which was to become a musician. I love making music and when the opportunity came in 2007, I quit my job and became a full-time musician. Even though I was still going to church, I found myself less and less interested in God.
In 2011, I decided to do something about my Christian life and enrolled myself into a course to study the Bible. It was then that the Lord grew my compassion for the young people and planted in my mind the thought of serving Him full time. When I saw the Singapore Youth for Christ website and the Performing Arts Ministry, I was so excited! I thought, “That’s perfect! I can combine my love for music and for youth to serve God.” I wrote to the organisation, met a staff to talk about how I can be involved and as they say the rest is history.
Looking back, my heart is filled with so much gratitude in seeing how the Lord has led me over the years. I am also reminded of His faithfulness from the book of Exodus where He brought the Israelites out of Egypt and established His visible presence amongst His people in the tabernacle.
This year, we will be studying the book of Joshua in our staff meetings. My prayer is that we will see God’s faithfulness in how He brought His people into the Promised Land and that it will encourage us both individually and as an organisation to continue to walk with Him and to serve Him faithfully in this new year.
Here’s wishing you a blessed 2021!
