How did you come to know SYFC?

While studying in the ITE, I met two volunteers who were publicising TeenSportz. They invited me to the event, but I was not interested. However, as I had left my contact details with them, subsequently they called me and invited me to their holiday PEP (Prayer-Evangelism-Partnership) meetings. I joined these meetings and after graduation from ITE, I joined Project Serve and continued volunteering after that.

Currently, what is your role in the ITE Ministry?

I am in the Campus Taskforce. Before I started working, I contacted students directly at their hangouts. Now that I’m working, I help staff and volunteers to call students whom they met. Every other week, I go to the SYFC office in Bible House to call students and invite them for upcoming events. When students tell me they are not interested, I would ask about their interests. During taskforce meetings, I share my findings on the students’ interests, for the team to consider organising events catering to these interests.

Whenever needed, I avail myself to help at events too, for example, being a station marshal.

What motivates you to go to bible house to call students after a long day at work?

I know I’m not the only person calling up students, as others in the team are doing it with me. Before we start calling, we pray together. This community plays a huge role in encouraging me to go for this fortnightly. I really experience the joy of serving the Lord with like-minded brothers and sisters in the ITE Ministry. Another thing that motivates me is the desire to be faithful to God with what He has entrusted me to do.

What problems do you face when calling?

Nowadays, people are more wary about picking up calls, especially from numbers they are unfamiliar with, as they worry that I am a scammer. So I will send a message to introduce myself. After that, they are more comfortable to converse with me over calls and texts.

As an introvert, I find it quite tough to initiate conversations with people I do not know and have not met before, but I still try. I thank God for helping me each time.

How can Reach readers pray for you?

When I call students, I sometimes run out of ideas as to what I can say to those who are not interested in our programmes. Pray that in my calling, I can be more engaging and able to direct conversations to sharing Jesus Christ with them.
