Dear friend,
Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday are two significant days in the Christian calendar. These are the days when we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and how that brought about forgiveness of sin and the hope of an eternal life with God. To help our students remember the reason for the season and to provide them with opportunities to share this good news with others, Secondary School and Junior College Ministry (SJM) and Polytechnic Ministry organised two different programmes during the Holy Week.
As part of its He Is Risen! Easter campaign, SJM gathered its staff, volunteers, and Christian students in four centres on Holy Saturday for a time of worship, exhortation, and prayer, before sending everyone out to different parts of Singapore to share the gospel. After the exhortation, H, who was initially very afraid of approaching strangers said the truth that the resurrected Jesus equipped Christians with the Holy Spirit for evangelism encouraged her to trust in the Holy Spirit in overcoming her fear. G, another student participant, shared that she was initially rejected by many people whom she approached on the streets. Finally, she was able to share with a group of university students who were doing a survey. She had a lot of fun chatting with the students about their research on animal and human interactions and was glad she had the chance to share about the significance of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday with them.
At the Polytechnic Ministry’s event Remembering Christ, participants were invited to “the upper room” to watch a re-enactment of the last supper that Jesus had with his disciples. After which, they were challenged to share the gospel with their non-Christian friends as an expression of love for them and taught how to do so using tools and conversation starters. Finally, they were sent to events such as home baking, home coffee art and appreciation, food tours or by striking a conversation with someone in a cafe to share the gospel. A student EY, who recently gave her life to Jesus, invited her friend for a chill session at a cafe. Using the conversations starters she picked up earlier, EY shared the gospel with her friend and her friend agreed to meet her to discuss further about the Christian faith.
Paul, in 2 Timothy 4:2, urged believers to be prepared in season and out of season to preach the word and we are thankful that we could capitalise on the Holy Week to share the Good News with others. We ask that you pray for those who have heard the gospel during this season to consider the implications of Jesus’ death and resurrection for their own lives.
All Glory To God,
