“Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations…” (Lk 24:45-47)

In Luke 24, the disciples met the risen Christ. In these encounters, Jesus emphasized that the Old Testament was all about him (see verses 25-27 and 44). What an astounding claim! This means we ‘encountered’ Christ in the Old Testament before He came to earth.

On this understanding, Jesus pointed out two facets of the gospel: “that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead” and “that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name.” In other words, even in the Old Testament, the gospel is already present, which means it is timeless!

For this reason, the whole Scripture (Old and New Testament) anchors on Christ. This thought is picked up in the second half of SYFC’s motto, “Geared To The Times, Anchored To The Rock.” Without Christ, there is no gospel to proclaim. And to avoid presenting a distorted gospel, we keep our focus on Christ, always.

In this REACH, you will find our staff and volunteers rightly fixing their eyes on Jesus so that we continue to present the timeless gospel of Christ to every young person.
