Dear friend,

During the June school holidays, SYFC was bustling with activities of different scales and types  to cater to the needs of our students. There is something for those who enjoy the excitement of bigger scale events and also something for those who like cosy gatherings. Here are some events that took place in June.

Over the last six months, a group of Secondary School and Junior College Ministry (SJM) staff and volunteers has been gaming with students via an online platform. However, it is very difficult to engage students in conversations when they are so focused on gaming. Hence, SJM decided to organise an onsite meet up with these students. Thank God four students turned up and the group had a good time chilling over music and games. Our staff also managed to start gospel conversations with the students. They discovered one of them has heard the gospel from his friends and is very open to the Christian faith. Please pray with the staff as they follow up with this student.

The sports team from EDGE (Evolving Digital Generation Evangelism) Ministry organises regular rock climbing sessions every month to befriend climbing enthusiasts. During the month of June, one of our Christian students JX brought her friend E to the climbing session. E is aware that the event organisers are Christians and had expected someone to share about Christianity during the event. When that did not happen, E was quite surprised and on their way home, E asked JX why she wants to be a Christian. JX started sharing a bit about Jesus but could not continue as both of them had reached their station. Subsequently, JX invited E again to a badminton event and shared the gospel with E. Please pray for JX as she seeks further opportunity to find out E’s response to the gospel.

For students who prefer a variety of activities, we also had the This Connected Carnival Respawned (TCC Respawned). In this event, students enjoyed different activities such as Laser Tag, Virtual Reality games and animal experiential workshops. We thank God for the 194 students who came and heard the gospel. One of the students who was at the event is someone that Youth Guidance Ministry has been following up with for the past two years. He only started showing some interest in the gospel during an Easter programme this year and at TCC Respawned, he prayed to receive Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour. Please pray for our staff as they guide him in learning what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Thank God for the opportunities to know new students, befriend them and share the gospel to some of them during our events. This is not something we take for granted will happen since students are very busy and have many things vying for their attention today. Hence, for them to even say, “Yes, I’m coming” has to be the Lord’s work. May God be pleased to use our events to accomplish His purposes.

All Glory To God,

Richard Tan
