Ann Mei Huey, 36, only heard of SYFC when her husband Dmitry Kassikhin, also a new staff, was approached to help in a creation for our immersive room. In June this year, this self-employed mobile game artist became a full-time artist in God’s harvest field.

What led you to serve God full time in SYFC?

I wanted to join my husband to serve God with our talents, creating animated videos that young people may have the right understanding of the gospel, and know that navigating through life’s problems can and must be done God’s way (2 Timothy 3:16-17). My ultimate desire is that they have a personal relationship with Jesus.

What is your work in SYFC?

I am part of the Digital Media team of EDGE (Evolving & Digital Generation Evangelism) Ministry. I handle graphics and illustrations for different projects, including our digital evangelistic Bible study (EBS) material. I am learning a new software to do animations planned for next year, the nearest one due being the Chinese New Year animation. Sometimes, I’m involved in facilitating online zoom interactions like Operation TRF (Terraform). Recently, I taught a group of preteens animation and drawing over two Zoom sessions.

What has been difficult as well as exciting?

Creating animations and graphics take up much time and mental resources, so I find it hard to balance production of digital content and make time for meaningful interactions with young people. So far, working on the digital EBS material gives me the opportunity to introduce illustrations that give my perspective of God’s love for us.

When working on our digital EBS material, I learnt that the project servant who did the voice-over was in theatre arts CCA back in secondary school. He was also the voice of the maker in Potats Story, an animated story for preteens that we had completed. His voice quality was perfect for both roles! God not only provided for our productions, He sent the best! Praise be to Him!

How are you growing in your walk with God since you came in?

This ministry my husband and I have is a gift from God. I thank God we can use our skills and talents in a meaningful way and not waste them in worldly pursuits. When things get hard, I tend to think of quitting. But I am learning to look to the Lord for sustenance, one day at a time, and seeing God’s grace and mercy renewed daily in my life in this never-ending battle with sin.
