I joined the SYFC family as a staff this May. Applying for a full-time position in SYFC was an interesting process.

For one, I sent in my CV without any worthy qualifications to work with youth since I was a physiotherapist by profession! Also, I spoke to my elders and pastors to write letters of recommendation for me. I am shy by nature and growing up in a family church, I benefited from being the youngest of three children. I hid well in that persona; I had to now make myself known beyond that. It was daunting. To add on, there was a church commissioning service to officiate their support for my new work.
“So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.” – Acts 13:3
Although I was entirely afraid and shy through the whole process, I learned to see God in the big picture. I saw my church displaying partnership in the gospel. Just as the early church sent out Saul and Barnabas, my elders were praying and affirming this choice that I had shared with them more than 6 months before applying for it.
Jesus began His work when on earth (Acts 1:1) and now continues it through His people. This involves the local church praying, teaching and sending out those who are called.
It also involves a parachurch organisation like SYFC being in the community, touching base with those who have not heard the gospel. Those who have yet to hear the gospel benefit the most as an arm from the Christian community extends its hand to them where they are.
We continue the work of Christ right where we are; the local church and SYFC working together and affirming each other so that by all means, some might be saved (1 Corinthians 9:22).
