“…since I no longer have any room for work in these regions…I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain, and to be helped on my journey there by you…” Roman 15:23-24
In Romans 15:24, Paul shared his plan to bring the gospel to Spain. He asked the Roman Christians to be a part of this new project. Before making his way to them, he talked about the near completion of another project.
Paul was bringing a contribution collected from Gentile Christians in Macedonia and Achaia to help the Jewish Christians in Jerusalem who were facing a severe famine (see 15:25-27). Paul had made known the needs of the latter to the Christians in the two regions. And these Gentile Christians responded generously because they shared in the benefits of the gospel that originated from the Jews.
Just as the Christians in Macedonia and Achaia participated in his project, Paul was hoping the Roman Christians would join him in a new venture – the excitement of sharing the gospel to a people who had never heard the gospel before.
Paul understood the necessity of engaging Christians from different areas to help in the work of the gospel elsewhere. Because the gospel is for everyone everywhere.
