At first, I thought I could easily meet up with GA and GV, two brothers studying in the same secondary school, at the same time. But it was tough.

During my time with them, we talked and played board games. I also tried to help them understand the gospel, encouraging them to tell others about Jesus. GA has dyslexia so I had to slow down and explain to him in short and simple sentences. He would take a long time to answer my questions and would even forget the questions he was trying to answer. GV is quite mischievous and disruptive. Once, I asked if he had any question after going through a passage with him and he said, “Can I go to the washroom?” The two brothers quarrelled from time to time, and I had to mediate. Eventually, I met them separately and my time with each of them became more fruitful.

God used GA and GV to teach me faithfulness. Journeying with them required patience and endurance. There were days of fruitful studies and discussions. Then there were days where I did nothing but “putting out fire”. On some other occasions, I just played games and listened to them share about their day.

From my experience with them, I am learning that each of us grows at a different pace and will bear fruit at different times. And no matter what, it is God who enables me to keep going and trusting that He will grow the students in His time. I just need to be faithful in journeying with them.
