Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16)
We live in “the evil day”– an age of evil (Ephesians 6:13). Evil can invade into every sphere of life subverting what can be good in this world. Modern technology, internet, and social media are good examples. The above words, written by the apostle Paul, is timely. His instruction and warning are just as applicable today.
The instruction is set in the context of a warning. The days are still evil. Evil inhabits the hearts of people (Psalm 51:5), producing the kinds of people mentioned in 2 Timothy 3:1-4.
Evil can make its way into what man come up with. Now, internet and social media can be useful. But we are aware of the harm they can cause. Put Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the mix, it becomes hard to discern what is good and helpful or bad and harmful. Christians must discern. The baby must not be thrown out with the bath water! Being wise in conduct requires knowing the will of God (Ephesians 5:15-17). And walking wisely in an age of evil means snapping up every opportunity to advance God’s kingdom. In other words, we need to understand God’s ways and live within his plan.
Navigating in this day and age is not simple or easy – for if the days are evil, nothing can be neutral.
Inside this REACH, you will read how our staff and volunteers are learning to discern wisely. They are walking a fine line, using the benefits of technology and social media without falling into its traps. It’s about ensuring that the gospel remains the end goal, and presented in a manner pleasing to the Lord.
