Amelia is a year two, Digital Design and Development, polytechnic student. She serves in the Poly Ministry, in her PEP (Prayer Evangelism Partnership) Group.
What is your role in the Poly Ministry?
With other volunteers in a sub-core group, we watch over this aspect called “PEP Increase”. Through both physical and online means, we look for more Christian students to invite to our events and PEP groups.
What do you have to do each week or month?
My tasks involve creating Instagram (IG) posts weekly on a recent event or a related topic, and bi-weekly outreach. The postings take about 30 minutes each (we pre-make them during the holidays) and we spend about an hour at outreach. I join the sub-core group meetings to review past plans and make new plans for the upcoming month.
What is your typical week like?
Every week is different. But most days, I have school every weekday from early morning till 4.00 pm. I attend PEP group weekly. I’m President of my school CCA, so I have a weekly meeting that takes two hours. I meet the Poly sub-core group during lunchtime on the same day. I serve in my church small group and assist my dad, who leads this small group, by leading icebreakers or a short time of worship monthly. My church small group meets on the same day as my CCA and Poly sub-core group, so it is a really busy day for me!
In what ways have you grown from taking on these roles?
I have learned to prioritise more time to spend with God. Previously, I would not do my quiet time regularly. But now, as I serve, I learn to seek God more. I am also trying to get to know more the people in the various community groups I am a part of.
Another area is my time management. I used to game a lot, especially Call of Duty (COD). Now I spend my time wisely, fulfilling these meaningful tasks instead of playing games. It is good and I feel the joy of doing them.
How can Reach readers pray for you?
Pray that my time management can be good. With the exams coming and a lot of assignment submissions, I need the strength to persevere. (During the week of this interview, Amelia had two assignments to submit in four days). I used to go to sleep around 2 a.m. but my dad was concerned, so I shifted my sleeping hour to 9 p.m. instead. Pray for me to continue being intentional about my quiet time with God.
