For some reason, I bought two pieces of bread (garlic parmesan and cheese stick). Usually one is enough for breakfast. And for some reason, I ate both the next morning before heading to an on-site meeting that would end by 11.00 am. I thought I could go for an early lunch.
But after the meeting, my help was sought to make some props for a game at our coming preteens Christmas programme. The staff in charge didn’t have time to head out for lunch then back to office to get this done. I responded to her need for help and lunch turned out to be at 12.40 pm. Having been working from home mostly, my tummy had gotten used to lunch as early as 11.00 am. However that day, though lunch was real late, I only felt slightly hungry. On my way home, I realised I could have started to feel gastric pain, being prone to it if not for the two pieces of bread that sustained me. The Lord knew I needed a heavy breakfast and ensured I had it.
God’s providence in ordinary day-to-day activities guides us in our journey of faith through life, accomplishing His purpose in us.
I was reminded that our heavenly Father knows what we need even before we ask him (Matthew 6:8). I recall times when God met my needs even when I could not have predicted I would be in need. I cannot cover every corner and cannot always know what’s around the bend for me but God can. He is sovereign, in perfect control over small and big matters.
Our God of providence directs and holds my life impeccably with His perfect love, wisdom and power. The next occasion may not be a late meal and two pieces of bread but a weightier matter, yet I can trust God to be ahead of me, to know and meet my need as He wills.
