When I first heard of SG Accident Help Centre (SGAHC), my first thought was, “Who are these people?” I had not heard of them before. They were going to be our partners in a ministry event and there wasn’t much media coverage about them that I could find online.
This question was spectacularly answered later when we met them at their centre. Watching these men minister to injured migrant workers, their zeal and servant-heartedness immediately stood out to me. Be it talking to or about migrant workers, their infectious passion really rubbed off onto others. Serving the migrant workers humbly and wholeheartedly, they share their telephone numbers with them, spending long hours ministering to and assisting them.

As I chatted with them, I thought of the many ‘rights’ they had given up over the years to do this work. Work-life balance and getting off work at 5.00 pm? These are definitely ‘rights’ they do not enjoy. Yet they continue to keep on giving, for a need so much greater than themselves. A relatively unknown group (at least to me) but big on giving to migrant workers.
These brothers exemplify the humility of our Lord Jesus who, being in nature God, gave up His ‘rights’ as He made Himself nothing (Philippians 2:7) and came down to earth as a human. Going all the way to the cross, He gave up His very own life for the sins of the world.
Looking back, it has been such a privilege to work with these SGAHC staff. As I continue to serve in various capacities, it is my prayer that I too may be like them one day.
