Dear friend,
It has been nearly a year since I took over as national director and in this last communique for the year, I would like to share some reflections and lessons I have learnt from the Word of God and about myself since assuming the new role.
Looking to God, and not at the situation
2021 has been a rollercoaster year. There were many changes to the COVID-19 restrictions and keeping up with them was quite a challenge. Furthermore, we had to change our plans several times in the year so as to adhere to the regulations. This took a toll on my co-workers and me. But learning about God’s faithfulness from the book of Joshua helped me put all that had happened in perspective. Taking over Canaan must have looked like a near-impossible task to Israel since before the conquest, ten out of the twelve spies they had sent described the inhabitants as “giants”. While in Canaan, they may even be feeling weary about the ongoing battles and wondering when they could stop fighting. But God made it very clear that He was with them and He would definitely deliver what He had promised them. Israel needed only to trust and obey God. Similarly, I need only to continue doing what is right and trusting in God’s faithfulness to see us through this period of uncertainty.
Knowing my limits, and working as a team
There were many things I wanted to do when the year started. Other than performing the national director’s duties, I attended to the needs of the different ministries and was involved in the organisation of several projects. Very quickly, I realised that I was running out of steam. There were times when projects were stalled because I was not responding fast enough. This was when I realised that I cannot do the work on my own. The Lord has placed around me co-workers who are gifted in different areas in the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and I need to work with them more to support the whole ministry. I then understood better what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:4-14 and witnessed how God used the different members of the Body of Christ to compliment each other. The ELT is now looking at reorganising ourselves so that we can better work together. Please pray along with us for wisdom and unity on this matter. While 2021 has been a turbulent year, we can look forward to 2022 as I believe that God will continue to surprise us with His faithfulness.
All Glory to God,
