Fully planned, publicised and executed by our Project Servants, MOVIEAT, as the name suggests, was about screening a movie and of course, eating :D
Projects Servants this year have been tasked to organise and conduct an evangelistic event for their area of ministry. For YG Project servants, they decided to make use of Valentine’s Day to share the Good News with youths from our Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood.
Planning turned out to be more challenging than expected, with many rounds of refining with supervisors, hashing out details of program flow, and running about getting appropriate and (yes!) the cheapest price. Project servants learned to look at the not just the big picture, but also to pay attention to details; they learnt creativity, perseverance, and most of all, dependence on God.
Publicity was done in teams - going out into the neightbourhood, finding out where the youths hung out and bringing the publicity flyers to them. Sometimes it took some game time in basketball for the youths to warm up, but the project servants were ready. They faced much rejection and weird looks - but they pressed on toward their goal - going out each day, hands and hearts willing to be put to the work of sharing the Message of Love.
The actual event saw a good turnout. Although it did not turn out to be all they planned it to be, just to watch the project servants make quick decisions and prove their ability to be flexible to how the youth were responding, was an encouragement to the staff. During the movie, many of the youths kept walking in and out of the office; fortunately Kelly was geared with the fondue station just outside, and so students were still engaged that way. Inside, Clarissa bravely shared her testimony before sending the group out for dinner. Certainly the organising project servants were under quite a bit of stress by this time, but the bbq dinner turned out to be a great platform for them to really connect and relate with the invited youths. The guys even took the pool table outside for play!
We thank God for the opportunities the project servants had to begin working with some of the youths from the neighbourhood. The seed of the Word has been sown, and some of the staff and project servants will be doing follow-up with those who have responded positively. It has been heart-warming to see how the projects have responded to God’s call in their lives, and how willing and available they have been to serve
Chinese New Year is oft a time of togetherness and strengthening family ties.. so it is easy to forget that not all of us have families that come together to bond. For us at YG, CNY is a time to gather those youths who do not usually have “tuan yuan fan”, and an opportune time to reconnect with those whom we have not been able to be in contact with due to one reason or the other. We become family for them.
Both the guys and the gals had a great time of feasting, fun and fellowship. The guys had a solid Word-teaching session with an invited speaker. It was a time to gather old boys and also volunteers!
The gals? They used it as a kick-off for their CF, introducing the importance of meeting together regularly to study God’s Word as a family of God.
Thank God for the blessing of His family that surrounds us, supports and encourages us on toward Him
do our shoes say anything about us?
“..for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”"
Qn: can anyone give me the reference for these verses without looking it up?
