Why Organic?

Geared To The Times, Anchored To The Rock

C.O.R.E. stands for Continual Organic Responsible Evangelism. You may wonder why organic?

A growing plant or animal is described as organic when no artificial chemical has been added to it. It also means being or coming from a living thing. Applied in our context, organic refers to our desire, first of all, that every Christian young person’s conversion and growth is genuine and a result of the Spirit’s work in his life. Also, that his life, including his evangelism, is an outflow of his living relationship with God.

However, speaking about Christ to others is sometimes not the most natural thing we do. David Platt, in his book, Follow Me: A Call to Die, A Call to Live, urges us: “We email, Facebook, tweet and text with people who are going to spend eternity in either heaven or hell. Our lives are too short to waste on mere temporal conversations when massive eternal realities hang in the balance. Just as you and I have no guarantee that we will live through the day, the people around us are not guaranteed tomorrow either. So let’s be intentional about sewing the threads of the gospel into the fabric of our conversations everyday, knowing that it will not always be easy, yet believing that eternity will always be worth it.”

When spreading their faith, Christian young people sometimes may share out of a lifeless routine or obligation, and end up being mechanical or not organic. It is only when they understand the gospel better and grasp its implications for eternity that they will be motivated to go about ‘sewing the threads of the gospel into the fabric’ of their daily conversations in school, at home and at play.

Pray for SYFC young people, volunteers and staff that in their encounters with peers and relatives, they will be ‘intentional’ and sincere, leading them to consider Him no matter how difficult it is.
